St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, was established in 1860 by a Catholic Minority Religious Body, the Society of Jesus. The college has been a significant educational institution in India known for its emphasis on holistic education and social service. In its early years, St. Xavier’s College was affiliated with the University of Calcutta in 1862. In 2006, the college received “Autonomous” status.
Although SXC, Kolkata, caters to educational and cultural needs of the Minority community, it offers admission to all irrespective of caste, creed and nationality.
