Nursing Courses: Eligibility, Syllabus, Colleges, Admission

Nursing Course Details:

Did you know that two-thirds of the healthcare workforce are nurses? The history of nursing can be traced back to the time when every village had a dai (traditional village nurse) to assist during childbirth. In the 17th century, military nursing emerged as the earliest form of modern nursing, introduced in India by the Portuguese.

The development of nursing and midwifery gained momentum with the Five-Year Plans and the National Health Policy (2002). As a result, significant progress has been made in the field. Today, India is home to thousands of nursing colleges. The table below provides an overview for nursing aspirants to understand the current state of modern nursing.

Admission Process for Nursing Courses:

There are two kinds of admission for nursing courses. One is direct admission, and the other is admission based on entrance exams. The admission procedure will vary depending on the level of the course the student wishes to pursue. In direct admission, colleges grant seats based on marks in the qualifying exam, usually Class 12 or equivalent, for undergraduate programs and graduation for postgraduate programs. This method is common in private institutions and is often used for diploma and undergraduate courses such as ANM, GNM, and sometimes B.Sc. Nursing. Entrance exam-based admission is more competitive and is followed by reputed government and private colleges. Exams like NEET, AIIMS Nursing, or state-level tests are conducted, and students are shortlisted based on their scores. After the results are published, counselling and seat allotment take place. The admission process also depends on the level of the course. Diploma courses often have direct admission or state-level counselling, undergraduate courses may follow either direct or entrance-based methods, while postgraduate courses usually rely on entrance exams to assess subject knowledge. Students must check individual college requirements before applying.

Nursing aspirants can avail the help of Learntech Edu Solutions, which includes services ranging from course recommendations, guided campus tours, flexible fee payments and many more, making the admission process smooth and stress-free.
